Catch 22 Beachside Grille & Bar is a family owned and operated restaurant situated on the beachfront in Table View, Cape Town.

Founded by myself and my father in 2013, myself and my mother now strive to keep my father’s passion for hospitality, and his dedication to his business and its people alive, since he is no longer able to work due to ill-health.  Infused with family history and passion, the Katz family and the Catch Crew welcome our loyal guests like old friends and long-lost family on each visit. Catch 22 is a home-away-from-home for many of us; staff and customers from around the world, alike. Now more than ever I am fighting to keep Catch 22 afloat for us all. 

Our ‘Catch Crew’ is made up of 40 members, many whom have been with us for close on a decade, and have grown with us from waiters into managers, and from scullers into accomplished cooks. Our core crew are a loyal, hard-working team who each in their own right add a bit of heart and soul to Catch 22. We laugh together (a lot), cry together, fight and make up. It truly is a family affair. 

 During this most difficult and unprecedented time, our business has been unable to trade at all, and the losses have been immense and often felt irreversible. My crew has been what’s driving me to fight. With the initial restrictions set in place, revenue was down up to 80% and now we have absolutely no income during the lockdown, and thus no means to continue paying any salaries, which has been a devastating blow.

 My crew’s dedication, infectious smiles and words of encouragement, even now; on days when I’ve felt overwhelmed, is what has pushed me to spend sleepless days and nights looking for, and working on, every possible means of survival, for us all. 

Qualifying for the SAFT fund has honestly lifted an immense weight off my shoulders. Knowing my crew are able to take care of, and provide for their families during this time, ensures that I can now focus on keeping Catch 22 alive, for us all to return to soon enough. 

I thank the Standard Bank team for making the application process absolutely seamless and stress-free! From my initial call into the business center on the morning of Friday, April 3rd, the assistance received was knowledgeable and personable. I completed the online application on the Friday morning, and by the following afternoon, received feedback of the approval! The one-on-one service received since has been exceptional.
